oem vs retail?

One comes in a nicer package. :p OEM is just the basic, bare bones, no frills version of retail. It doesn't include things like bonus games or whatnot. But they are in every other way, shape, and form the exact same product as far as I am aware.

This only applies to software...not hardware. I have heard it said that with some items, that OEMs are more likely to be culls or pulls, but I don't really know. The only other thing about OEMs is that they frequently do not have as great of a warranty. The only exception that I'm aware of, is with a WDC OEM harddrive with a 3 year warranty, versus retail with only 1.

OEM in hardware= Component only, maybe a driver disc if your lucky. Retail= All the packaging, more software, and other assorted goodies.
