not really I was able to overclock my OEM just as much as peoples retails. you will hear another side though. If you get a significant discount go for it

Well I was going to get an opty 165 after repairing and selling my 3800 x2. Tiger Direct has the OEM for $311 Shipped. I would say that is a good $30 - $40 dollars saved. I'm pissed about missing that deal monarch had though.

if you got a fan perfect
if you want to overclock you can use the 40 for a better fan
Win-Win situation

I have an xp 90 already that I am planning to use. So OEM seems like the best choice at this point. Going to cost me an extra $20 bucks over just getting another 3800 x2. So why not?

Reason I asked was because for some reason whenever I think of OEM, I think of refurbished. Which I know are two different things. Who would want a crippled CPU right?

No just means no documentation and no fan. warranty could be an issue but that fan mean to me that your planning on voiding it anyways ;)

OEM is a sure bet if you have everything else...if you are sure about your instalation skills. Usually..if something does go wrong with the system it would be within that 30 days...just safegaurd your pc for the next 3 yrs.

IIRC OEM chips actually get no warranty support from the manufacturer, you have to go through the vendor you bought it from.

Otherwise yes, you just don't get the extras.

OEM has a 1 year warranty (I think, or shorter) vs the retail 3 year warranty. But if you plan on OC'ing its a moot point :D

OEM has NO manufacturer warranty at all. your retailer may offer something, but I wouldnt bet on it.

No one knows you're voiding anything unless you're taking pictures of your CPU with the serial and then posting it over sites like AT or XS or OCForums.

yes, but thats immoral at least, and potentially illegal..... and we here at AT do not advocate anything illegal. anyways, yeah, i have never worried about warranties on stuff except hard drives really.
