I currently have 2gigs of DDR2-533 in my laptop as a placeholder until I receive my other stick of DDR2-667. The amount of RAM won't change, but the specifications of it will. Will this affect my copy of Vista Premium OEM?

Most likely you won't notice a thing. And it's pretty safe to say that with 2GB the "swapping" is actually either Indexing or SuperFetch working.

My concern would be more or less, Vista freaking out because it's different RAM and not wanting to validate.

It shouldn't, but if it does, what's the big deal? Click the activate online button or call the number...at most you have to sit on the phone for a couple of minutes.

The thought of calling any tech support is enough to give me nightmares, but I'll go ahead and try it :)

Actually, I don't even need to activate the damn thing until after I swap out the memory so I'll do that.

It's really not that bad to call the activation line in my experience. I've had to do it a couple of times. But, if you haven't activated yet, you're right, that's probably your best bet to wait until your hardware is finalized.

If online activation fails, manual activation over the phone only takes a few minutes. While you're reading back the slew of numbers, you can ask the operator what their life is like in India. You might make a penpal in the process.

I added more ram to my machine just last month on vista business, no problems with activation.
