OEM Tires... How many miles?

Anyone know about how many miles are to be expected out of a set of OEM tires?

I have about 38,000 on the original tires, and it looks like it may be time for some new ones.

The one and only time I bought tires I got Michelin's and Firestone/Ford paid for them. :)

I was looking at TireRack.com and noticed that the Michelin's are $180 each, but they also list some cheaper tires by General and one by Yokohama which are about $100 each.

Any insight or suggestions would be helpful.

I'm also looking though some of the Dodge Truck forums... but alot of them seem to be geared toward off-road, which I don't do.

I just got a flat tire last week and my tires are Michelins that run about $280/piece.

Instead I just matched up with one that has the same exact specs and it cost me $90 shipped from tirerack.com.

It arrived the following day and I got it put on the day after during my lunch break.

If I were you I'd go w/the cheaper ones if you want to save some money. The tradeoff probably isn't even noticeable.

new ram? my dad has a set of mastercraft tires on his 03 (20" rims) and they're definately doing better than the OEM goodyears with wear.

I have BFG AT-KO's on my 97 ram. IMO, one of the best all terrain tires out there, if not the best.

38k is decent, though. I wore out the OEM tires on my mazda6 in 18k miles. it's fun to take corners fast, especially coming from a truck. :)

I got about 40K out of my OEM Bridgestones.
Possibly could have squeezed a bit more out but they didn't feel safe.

Wear really depends on a lot of factors - type of tire, normal driving conditions, inflation, tire rotation, alignment, etc. I typically get between 40K and 50K miles on a set of tires on my trucks (current and previous). Of course, those are all-terrain tires, which generally have lower mileage ratings than a highway tire. A buddy got about 80K on his OEM tires on his Silverado, but they were a highway tread. As mentioned previously, check the wear indicators on your tires.

I put a set of Bridgestone Dueller ATs on my '93 Dakota at 140,000 miles and didn't change them until 215,000 miles. I recommend those tires for price/traction/mileage for trucks.

Hmm, I've seen those tires on a number of vehicles in other countries, and they seemed to have a pretty good tread pattern for paved, gravel, and light off-roading, but I'm surprised you got that many miles out of them. How's the wet traction on pavement?

It really depends on the tire. I wish I got that many miles on one set of tires on my car. I'd be on the 7th or 8th set with that many miles. :(
