I just received my Intel x25m from newegg.com during the pre black friday sales. When I'd looked at the pictures that newegg had on there for the oem verison, I notice that it a black rubber on the outside. My ssd is missing the black rubber.

Was there anybody else who brought a ssd from newegg.com that had a missing black rubber? Should I contact newegg.com for a RMA exchange?

I just finished flashed the drive to the current firmware without any problems.

Do you think it might have been opened already?

Please help!

I've received the retail version from the black Friday sales too. The rubber is there. What's your SSD pack date?

The "black rubber" is a plastic spacer so that it fits in laptops. The one without is thinner and used in desktops but they are pretty much interchangable. The one without is just a different SKU and there's nothing actually physically wrong with the drive unless you bought it to use in a laptop and now it doesn't fit.

I should be getting mine today from the same sale, I'll let you know what it looks like once I receive it.

Nope, no rubber bracket. OEM x25-m 80 gb. The back of mine is also slightly scratched as reported in this thread, but not terribly. Packaged 18 September 2009.
