Just got this drive....looks like even with Windows 7 that more software will be needed for me to watch my movie collection on my pc. Can someone point me in the right direction for a decent software to use?
The only Blu-Ray movie player that isn't terrible is PowerDVD, and even that is subjective. The rest only get worse, I'm afraid.
It's even more complex than that. The DRM requirements for Blu-Ray effectively require that periodic updates are issued to support new DRM methods (BD+, etc), and there needs to be a functional key revocation system. This on top of the costs makes it very difficult for Microsoft to bundle Blu-Ray support. This may have changed but last year when I was looking into this. There are no codecs in Windows (as an example) that allow you to play blu-rays because... Sony charges a fee for their use. As opposed to DVD's which you can play through media player if you wanted to.
Doesn't VLC work?
