Odds are high that I'm going to get the flu.

Kid I haven’t seen in over five years got back in touch with me and wanted to grab some food, we live on opposite sides of town but most good places to eat were on his side so I drove over and picked him up. On the way to get some food I noticed that he was stuffed up and asked if he was feeling ok, he said he was getting over something but I shouldn’t worry; I turned up the air and hoped for the best.

Now let me mention something, I’ve had SIX (maybe more, last year was a blur) sinus infections in the past eight months and now I’m working with an ENT to get some surgery done because he didn’t like what he saw on my cat scan (No really, he asked me three times if I was SURE I was feeling ok after he looked at the scan and then put me on a Z-pack. Yay… More pills&#8230😉. I have to get one more scan done before I go under the knife and it’s a PITA to get the scans scheduled due to insurance wanting it done elsewhere.

So we are sitting there eating and after he brings up how stuffed up he is I asked how long he’s been sick because he's looking rough, he tells me that he’s on day three of having the flu and that he was supposed to be working but they sent him home after throwing up at work.

I just kinda sat there for a moment…

Then told him that, besides the fact he shouldn’t even be out of bed, when I catch a cold it takes me out for at least a week while I live on antibiotics and pain killers trying to get over the infection that follows the cold; the flu could possibly put me in the hospital if things go bad. He didn’t see the issue as he wasn’t coughing on me; I just finished the last few bites of my food and asked for the check.

I had the rear windows down and the air on high they whole way back to his house, kicked him out, cleaned my cars trim with bleach, put my clothes in the wash, took a hot shower, downed a bunch of vitamins, used a sinus flush (twice) and hoped for the best. If I make it to Tuesday without feeling anything I’ll be in the clear.

Don’t plan on ever hanging out with the kid again.

Cliffs (lazy assholes):
*Guy I haven't seen in five years wanted to get food.
*He had the flu and didn't tell me until after riding in my car
*I get sick very easy due to a condition
*Guy is an asshole

The world is a dirty place. It's good to take reasonable precautions but, you seem to be letting your predilection for infections define your life.

Not a mysophobe, the fact it would make a bad combo for me was just an explanation of why I'm so raw about it; my sinuses are full of junk that waits for a chance to kick my ass. After being sick for two weeks I was getting out every chance I got, cabin fever is not fun.

Main point was it's a dick move for a person to invite someone out while sick with the flu, regardless of the other person’s health.

It’s just rude.

Told me he took a bunch of meds but it is strange that he was up and walking around, seeing as when I had the flu I was only able to walk from one side of the house to the other from being so drained.

Could be he just thinks it's the flu when it's realy just a bad cold, either way I'm still shaking my head.

I can empathize with you. Just got over the flu. Took me 5 days total, 3 of which were pure Hell! Luckily I only get sick about once a year, (wintertime).
