Odd Windows server problem with a user account

Confused

Elite Member
Hi all.

I'm having a very weird problem with the server here, which is running Windows 2000 SBS.

A specific user is having the account locked out as soon as it is logged on. I can disable the account lockout, and the user can log on. It will then not be able to get to any mapped drives, and looking at the user properties in SBS System Manager will show that the account is again locked.

Anyone got any ideas why this might be happening?

Was the password recently changed on this account? Are there any scheduled tasks or services set to start with this account? These are very common problems with account lockouts.

Also this Microsoft tool can really help out finding out what is locking the account out.

mikecel79,

Thanks for that link, that will come in handy in the future.

No changed passwords or services/tasks that I know of.

What I ended up doing in the end (as I was at another site and wanted to get home at a reasonable time!) was to rename the existing user, create a new user with the same details as the old user used to be, backup the Exchange mailbox, delete the old user account, and attach the Exchange mailbox to the new account.
