Odd Windows Install Issue

OK, trying to install Windows 7 x64 on this laptop, and getting this error message:

Now I get the error message even with no hard drive in the machine, so it's nothing on the drive causing problems. I've also tried it with a Windows Vista x64 installer, and the machine was just running Vista a few hours ago.

I can't see any BIOS options that would have jack to do with this, and there is a newer BIOS on the HP website...but it's only available in a windows installer package. 🙄

The install media has been tested on other systems, no issues. Here are the laptop specs:

Also, the error message is the same when installing from a USB drive or DVD.

You said you tried reinstalling vista and it did the same?

Try memtest on the ram.

Humm, an older NVIDIA chipset. Pull half the RAM and see if that gets you anywhere.

Do you have a USB stick attached to the machine while trying to install?
