Odd Win7 behavior

I have Win7 Pro 64-bit installed since October 31st. Lately it's behaving a little bit odd in that it sometimes seems to lose its network connection when resuming from sleep and the only way to restore it is to reboot both the computer and the router. This has been happening maybe once a month for the past 3 months.

I have an integrated Realtek PCIe Gbit NIC (Realtek PCIe GBE Family driver version 7.12.1218.2009) patched into a Trendnet Gbit Green 8-port switch which is then patched into a Linksys WRT45G router. The cabling is all within spec for Gbit speeds even though it's home made using CAT5e.

Another odd thing I noticed was that I was poking around on the Internet earlier and suddenly the theme switched from my customized Aero theme to the classic non-aero theme. I started looking in event viewer for evidence of a display adapter driver crash or something like that and I've found nothing. While I was looking, it suddenly switched back to my Aero theme. I verified no updates were running, MSE was not scanning, I didn't have any video or anything playing... only had iTunes open but nothing playing and Chrome with about 6 tabs open.

I did eventually find an event in Event Viewer:
Event 9010 - A request to disable the Desktop Window Manager was made by process (Windows System Assessment Tool)

A quick Google search turned up a few forum posts about the same behavior, but I've yet to find any responses that indicate why this is happening. Seems to be the System Assessment Tool running on a schedule on Sundays at 1AM and disabling Aero to perform a test, but it's only supposed to happen when the computer is idle... I was actively clicking on a few things when it happened.

Any ideas how I can prevent either of those from happening again? I can't find the scheduled task for the System Assessment Tool to disabled it or reschedule it.

Aero can swict out when a program or a dll/ocx that do not suppor Aero is used.

It is a normal behavior.

As far as the NIC, try to disable its Power saving.

There might be setting of NIC power saving in the Card's drivers, Win 7's power options, and Vendor's 3rd party application (in case of a laptop).
