Odd Wi-Fi network issues.

I have D-Link 614+ wifi routers at home and in the office..
Both of them are acting kind of funny, at least with my Powerbook.

The one at home will all of a sudden "hang" the connection but ONLY on my PB (wifi desktop works fine). I have to refresh my network settings on the PB to be able to browse again.

Oddly enough, things work fine at the office but every morning when I come in there is NO signal coming from the router there. I have to reset it before it will start broadcasting the signal.. like it turns itself off every night or something.

Are there issues with DLink routers or am I just finding random quirks?

That's wireless for you. It's still relatively an infantile technology and has it's quirks. If I try throwing my laptop with integrated wireless onto my WiFi network it nukes the network somehow and prevents all wireless clients from being able to browse.

But, the same laptop at 5 other places works flawlessly.

😕

I have the D-Link 614+ as well and have had no problems. I use it daily (i.e. all the time) from my laptop.

Have you updated the firmware?

Does your PB, for some reason, have something disabled that keeps it from auto-sensing your network? If it were to experience a signal interruption, and auto-sensing was disabled, your connection would hang until you manually refresh it. What PC card are you using with your PB?? Check your powersave settings on your PB - perhaps a screensaver or disk inactivity is causing a disconnect?

As for your router occasionally locking up, some just do it more frequently than others. They aren't perfect and most need at least an occasional reset. Multiple, daily resets are a drag 🙁

Try submitting your problem to D-Link with the slim chance they may solve your problem in a future firmware update.

Nope. PB worked fine for hours on my g/f's network using a Linksys router.
Been working flawlessly for 6 hours here at work. The wifi network just disappears the next morning.

The only connection hanging I experience is at home. I would be inclined to think it was the router but my desktop PC doesn't have that issue
