Odd video playing problem...

Here is the deal... I built a rig for my step brother a little while ago and we have come across a problem I have never seen before. The rig plays games great with no problems for hours on end, so I know it is not a hardware problem (or am pretty sure). Atleast not an obvious hardware problem. Here is the deal, anytime we try to play any type of video file (e.g. mpeg) the computer freezes and after a few seconds reboots. What the heck is going on? This is from a fresh install of Windows XP SP2. I dont have the hardware in front of me, but I know the videocard is a 6600GT, processor is an AMD Sempron, and it has a gig of memory.

Thanks,
Bill

Try this and see if it makes a difference. http://haali.cs.msu.ru/mkv/

All you need to do is install it and then try playing files in a media player like Windows Media Player or Media Player Classic. What media player were you using?

Thanks for your response, we are using Windows Media Player, I also believe we tried it with WinAmp as well
