Odd video card situation...

I have an OEM version of the GeForce 2 GTS (64 meg). wheneven the computer is not used for a long period of time (it doesnt go into standby mode, and it doesnt turn off the HD), the temp on the video card will jump up very high. as soon as i return to using it again, the temps will fall. is the fan shutting itself off? the fan on the GPU is connected to the card itself. any suggestion?

thanks

Going into standby, everything is pretty much turned off, and when you try and return from that a sudden jolt of power is given to all your components, which will certainly constitute a raise in temp. As long as it is going down after you get back to the desktop, I wouldn't worry about it. If you want to really try and cool it down, buy a Blue Orb to replace the fan on the Card, but you will still see some kind of temp. raise.

well, what i am worried about is, what is the temp while the machine is not being used. like i said before, the computer doest NOT go into standby (i never liked the idea, and it usually doesnt work that well for me).

do your fans have a seperate power supply, and if so are THEY by chance going into standby? i had troubles with temp and realized taht even though i didn't have hard drive or monitor standby on, i had somehow missed my fan setup and had it shutoff after 30 minutes of inactivity.
