Hi guys,

I'm trying to get ideas for speaker placement in my new place. I've attached the diagram below.

Living room diagram

My original idea was to mount a flat screen in the corner labeled "A". The TV would sit flush against the wall with the staircase when not in use, and would pivot diagonally when we wanted to watch. This is also the corner with the cable connection.

I'm having trouble figuring out where to place the speakers since we would watching at an angle. I have a 5.1 setup and ideally would've liked to wall mount everything. The problem I see is that with the stairway, the speaker on the left might look like it's hanging out in space by itself. Any thoughts?

My second idea is to mount the TV on wall B. This presents the issue of having to run about 20' feet of cable from point A to point B. Also the stairway presents issues with where to mount the rear speakers.

Any creative ideas are welcome!

Thanks!

Anthony

EDIT: I should mention the speakers are a set of Klipsh Quintet SL 5 I picked up a month ago from a WOOT off. I'm still debating on what Sub and receiver to get, but I'm leaning towards the S12 for the sub and an Onkyo TX-SR606. What are your thoughts about this set up?

Thanks

Wall B is where you need to be. Make sure you understand the difference between surround and rear speakers, they are not the same thing.

If I place the tv on wall B, where would recommend the surround speakers go? I assume the couch would then be placed along the stairwell. The stairwell wall goes up about 3 ft. Would it be weird to have them there? Also would you recommend running wiring the along the base of the floor. Is there any dedgradation in quality the longer you run the wire?

run the wire in the attic or put up some crown molding to hide the wires. surround speakers should be horizontal to the listener just higher than ear level (if at all possible)

unfortunately this is the second floor of a 3 story townhome so i don't think it's possible to run the wires that way. Also crown molding in just 1 room would look really weird. I guess I can run it along the baseboards.

I'd really love to have it in corner A if possible since it would allow everyone in the living room, dining room, and kitchen to watch the TV (ie for big gatherings and stuff). Any suggestions on speaker and couch placements for corner A?

Thanks!
