Odd Semp2200+ FSB value

I've just bought a new PC - A sempron 2200+ @ 1500MHz. The trouble is it's only running at 1200MHz.
In the BIOS the FSB is set at 133/333 - isn't this a strange value? The maximum value I can up it too is 165/400 (or 450 can't remember, it was ridulously high anyway) - which I daren't try because it'll probably/definitely nuke my CPU. What's going on here? Why isn't it 166/333?

Thanks

MadEye

Look for a jumper on your mobo that can change the bus speed from 133 to 166, otherwise you should be able to change it in the bios.

right now the procs running at 133x9 with the ram at pc2700. You want the proc at 333x9 with the ram at pc2700. That would be 166/333.

Just let me get this straight. Currently it's running at 133/333 with a multiplier at 9. I have no idea what type of RAM I have but it must be the right kind because the company I bought it off would have installed ram for that speed. If I manage to set the jumpers so the FSB is at 166/333 my CPU, PCI, RAM etc will be stable?
The trouble is the manual given to me is specifically for the V4MDM board, which is very similar to my board but it's jumper settings for FSB are different, and the manual doesn't cover them for my board. The V4MDM has 2*2pin blocks, j7 and j8, where as mine has 3*2 pin blocks, j7, j8 and j9, apparently.

OK, found out my RAM speed. It's PC2100 running at 266, so is it under strain already with the 133/333 fasb? Will upping it to 166/333 make any difference?

yes, right now if what you state is correct (133/333), your pc2100 is running at pc2700 speeds. if your computer is stable right now, then that means your ram is probably capable of running at pc2700 speeds. you should run tests on your ram (particularly memtest86) to make sure your ram is 100% stable.

also, the sempr0n 2200+ is supposed to run at 1.5ghz (166 x 9). your cpu will be stable at that speed, but i don't know about the rest of your system (maybe your motherboard can't handle 166/333), but if they sold it to you that way, then it should be.

I don't know if it is running at 333 already. When it boots up under the 133 jumper setting it says DRAM 266, but under the 166 setting it said 333. In the CMOS under the 133 jumper setting it says 133/333 for the cpu external timing and 133 for the memory.
When I set the jumpers on on the mobo to 166 the PC didn't run correctly -VXD errors and all, the ram was still running at 266, but in CMOS I set the ram speed to 166 so when it bootd it said DRAM 333 - windows booted and seemed to run fine but i didn't want to keep it up for a long time in case of killing my ram.

If all this sounds confused it's because I am confused :^)

Don't worry about hurting your ram. I've been overclocking my ram for ages. If your ddram can't run at those settings, you will get windows bluescreen error messages.

so all the times that you set 166 in bios, it only worked at 133 at bootup (or ddr266)

it seems to me that when you're at 166/266, your computer doesnt like to be async'ed. but if you say that at 166/333 is stable, then you should be fine. just to make sure, try running prime95 for a few hours (12+) to make sure your system is stable. then try running memtest86 on your ram, to make sure that your ram is fine at ddr333 also.

haha, as have i 😉
i made my computer prime95 stable for 48 hours, but i failed memtest86 in 5 minutes 😵 i thought i could do 2-2-2-11, but to make my memtest86 pass for 12+ hours, i had to up my vdimm a lil
