odd question: how long does bacon keep if it's unrefrigerated?

You can buy the pre-cooked kind off the shelf. not sure if it's refrigerated or not though. Smoke it to cook it and it should last forever like beef jerky.

This would be the only way I would send it. Package in a foam package suitable for shipping perishables with dry ice.

I wouldn't touch bacon left at room temp for 6 hours let alone days.

You mean Bacos - the stuff you put on salads? That isn't real bacon to begin with. :Q

Pack it in dry ice, which you can pick up at your grocery store. Just ask for some at the meat counter.

Why don't you just send a little paper with "IOU-4 lbs of bacon" scrawled over it in crayon?

sending a birthday package to my friend. she loves-- LOVES-- bacon. it's some kind of low carb thing. thought i'd include some-- the equivalent of baking cookies for her-- but it just seems too safe/too much of a hassle. i guess i'll just send jerky, which she also likes, but lacks the homemade touch. thanks for all the help...

in cool weather i would think bacon would keep for a few days, the whole point of smoked meatrs is that's how they kept meat from spoiling before refrigeration.

of course most all the people from those days are dead, so maybe it wasn't safe.
