Odd problems with Windows XP and winamp, need some help

I just started running windows XP and I noticed a problem when I run winamp. I had this happen to me 3 times and each the same problem. Winamp usually use about 0-3% cpu power and tops out at 5%. But the problem I have causes winamp to use 100% of the cpu and everything on my system just bogs down. I have system restore off so it won't use the cpu as much. I haven't noticed this problem on other computers using XP. So I'm wondering is this software (Win XP or Winamp) or a hardware? When the system is slow, I check the task manager and see that winamp is running at 98% of the cpu. I have no idea what is going on and it is very frustrating. When it bogs down my system, I can't do anything to the system.

I really need help solving this problem. Any suggestion is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well, I had the same problem with Winamp in W2k and then again in XP Pro. I downloaded all the latest updates from Microsoft and this seems to have fixed the problem ... for now. I had a problem when I connected to the internet, that the CPU usage went to 100% and my music would stutter and stammer. Now, it hasn't done that in the last hour or so (downloaded the updates 1 hour ago), so I'm still trying to make it do that again. It hasn't yet ... yet. Tell me what your system specs are and I might be able to give you more info.
