QuickTime 5.0 and XP are on marginal speaking terms . . . it is one of tolerance. I installed QT but only use it for those files that WMP8 won't play . . . specifically, .MOV files from my digital camera. Otherwise, it would not be on my system.

There is a very good review of these "player" files in the current PC Mag . . . and QT doesn't get a very good rating. The best seems to be MusicMatch Jukebox with WMP8 (XP) right up there.

Change the file association of *.MP3 from QuickTime to WMP8 (XP). That is done in Control Panel - Folder Options and File Types. Find .MP3 and you will see it is associated with QT. Delete that association and create a new one for WMP.

When QT installs itself, you have to curb it or it will try and take over your media files. You have to stay in control of those things. Other 3rd party software tries to do the same thing. I just checked my oen and it had ATI Media player as the default MP3 player. I deleted it and changed that to Windows Media Player. Much better! You could use WinAmp, RealAudio . . . whatever turns your crank. But any Windows user needs to know and understand how to control File Associations.
