hopefully this is in the right forum
not sure how to explain this.
i have had dsl for many years now, our acct is so old that its still using a "bridge" type acct. (which hasnt been available for 4 or 5 years from bellsouth) which means i dont have a logon username/pass, but its configured to the mac address of my dsl modem.
years ago i switched to an external routher (from the internal dsl modem) and since the router had "mac address cloning" i had no problem setting up my home network by cloning the mac address of the old internal modem.
ok thats kinda the background
when i try to connect to hotmail it loads up the login page, but when i type username/pass it just hangs (its been doing this for a week now). it does this from any pc on our home network. but when outside of our network i have no problems logging on. ive tried all the stuff i could think of, like flushing dns, clearing cookies, etc. ive even tried different browsers (firefox, IE, opera)
but here is where it gets interesting, the other day when playing with the router. i changed the config so it logged onto bellsouth using my username/pass. and suddenly hotmail is working?? this would be fine and dandy, but i dont want to log onto my dsl that way.
when i log on using username/pass i have a dynamic IP, and my connection isnt as fast... when log on my bridged acct i have a static IP and a faster connection. (i want the static IP, and obviously the faster connection is prefered)
any ideas on what could be causing hotmail not to work? its worked fine on my static ip for years, and nothing else is giving me any problems. ie. i can log onto gmail or go to any web sites without problem. its just hotmail
any ideas? could the ip range of my static ip be blocked by hotmail? or is it something i need to configure on my end?
