Odd problem; Computer pausing on key depression

Hey guys,

I have a fairly serious and odd problem. I am having a problem where my computer freezes when I hold a button on my keyboard down for more than a second on two... the computer completely freezes until I release the key. Then it is back to normal.

This of course presents problems scrolling in RTS games.

My computer is fairly decent, so it is not like it is overloaded

Athlon 64 X2 4600+
4GB DDR2 800
GeForce 7950GTS
250GB SATA
Fully updated Windows Vista Home Prem.

Any idea?

Does this happen outside of games also? If your using a USB keyboard try hooking it up in the PS/2 slot with an adapter.

Yes, it does happen outsideof games.

It is a PS/2 keyboard... I have fully updated every single motherboard driver and even found drivers for the keyboard for giggles.

If anything the problem is worse now that I installed those!

Yes, I apologize. I updated the chipset drivers, processor drivers (didnt even know those existed...) and the most recent BIOS.

I went out and purchased a USB keyboard and it still does it.

Try opening up the task manager and click on the Processes tab. See if any any of the processes listed there spike the CPU up alot when you hold down a key.

it's possible the system has an IRQ conflict, though those are much rarer in these days with modern APIC bioses.

Do what jdw2 says, but also google a bit for "keyboard IRQ conflict" and the like, as I think this is the problem here, quite posssibly.

do you have any of the extra keyboard software installed like if it was a ms keyboard, they have there intellitype software, if you do try removing that software and see what happen
