got an item from newegg that was to be shipped via ups but was delivered by ups in a fedex box...

Yeah, they're doing that. Odd. But it's a lot better than the UPS boxes they had been using. The self-adhesive glue on those boxes were coming undone by the time the package went cross country, leaving the end wide open.
