Odd, minor, but annoying glitches. Motherboard?

Hey all,

I have an ASUS Maximus III Gene. I LOVE the board but Ive been noticing some things that have me wondering if it might be on the fritz.

1) Periodic sound issues. Pops and accompanying static, almost rythmic, but not all the time. I noticed it after a windows update last week, did a system restore, and it went away. 2 days ago, it did it again without me having updated. Sounds will still play and everything seems normal, except the popping every few seconds whether any sound is playing or not. It went away again after a re-start. It has only happened those 2 times so Im not sure what the issue is. Ive since gone ahead and let windows fully update, and havent had any issues.

Now, I am not sure if this is an issue or not since I have nothing to compare it to, but the X-Fi sounds...not right to me. I liked my old Realtek better. Could just be personal preference, or maybe the onboard sound is just screwy. Could it explain the popping? I have tons of volume, the EQ works, etc. Everything seems to work normally, but it sounds not right to me in a way that's difficult to explain.

2) Periodic conectivity issues. I have FiOs, which basically never goes out. Every once in a while over the last few days I notice a very, very slow connection, which seems to right itself after a few minutes. Last night I seemed to lose connection altogether, I reset my modem, that didnt fix it. I re-started my PC and all seemed well.

Since the sound and the internet are both built into the board, I am wondering if my Maximus is to blame. But the issues are vague enough that I truly do not know, or even know how to figure it out.

My full specs:

i5-750 running at 3.5

ASUS Maximus III Gene

Anted Earthwatts 750

Visiontek 5850

8 gigs of Corsair vengeance DDR3 1600

My temps are good, so I know it isnt heat causing my issues. Im thinking possibly some goofy Windows update/driver issues (I'm using 64 bit ultimate edition), my PSU, or the motherboard, but I lean more towards software issues since my parts arent that old, havent been beat up and are high-quality hardware.

I appreciate any input. My rig doesnt give me any issues other than these, it seems completely solid, but I need to know whether I should be concerned.

Is it (VISTA) or (SEVEN). is it original.(sorry to ask but none original will act-up) drivers problems. Myself am using vista 64 ultimate and no problems.just have to make sure you don't get beta drivers.

denis, it's Windows 7, sorry, should have specified. Yes, it is authentic Windows purchased from a reputable member here., validated with CD key, etc.

All of my drivers are up to date, and Ive been using the PC all night tonight with zero issues. I cant figure out what's going on. Maybe it has resolved itself.
