OK, here goes. I bought this card in march, and it was working awesome for me the whole time. However, I switched setups (new MOBO, HDD and RAM) so I had to resetup all my recording preferences, and all other settings that get redone when you build a new comp or do a reformat/reinstall. Now, it will record just fine, plays televesion just fine, but when I am actually in the process of recording something I have no sound. The playback of the recorded file does, just not my comp while recording. I can get around this problem, but it would be nice to record something(sports game etc) and be able to watch it at the same time.

I am running the card on an Abit NF7-S motherboard with the Nvidia Soundstorm. I have the TV cards aud out running to the line in on my onboard sound. Under the soundstorm control panel, I have record input set to line in, and digitized input set to line in. On the speaker setup tab I have it set to 6 speakers and digital output, as I am using the optical out to connect my speakers(Z-680's).

Anyone have any idea what is wrong? I am sure it is just something I have set stupidly somewhere, some little trick I forgot or something from it being 6 months since I last did this. Thanks in advance for any help.

MrSmithers,

The problem sounds like you only have digital audio...am I correct? You can't translate the incoming television programs from analog to the digital format. They play back correctly after they've been recorded because the recorded file is digital. I had the same problem when I had some digital speakers. What I had to do was get a cheap pair of analog speakers and connect them to the line out jack on the sound card. I had the digital speakers plugged in to the digital output (the versajack on my TB Santa Cruz) and I had the analog speakers in either the line out or head phone jack. I don't know of anyway to play a live incoming broadcast through digital so that is how I had to rig mine up. Hope that helps.

I don't know if the SS2 has the same feature, but my Audigy 1 has a feature called "record without monitoring" as an advanced analog recording feature, where you don't hear what's being recorded. This would describe your exact symptom, and if the SS2 supports that feature, turning it off is rather easy.

Hi MrSmithers,

I found out that if You record while the sound is muted You won't have any sound when You play what You recorded back.

Also, in the PVR configuration there are some sound recording settings that You might want to check: check the one called "record volume".

And check Your Windows sound settings: Start > Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > "Volume Control"... And check Your "Control Panel" for settings.

Ok, the thing is though. It has nothing to do with a digital vs. analog thing, because I can hear sound quite clearly during both viewing and playback of recorded material, just not while doing the actual recording. Also, the same thing with my record volume and control panel settings. Both these are fine since I am able to watch and then view recorded shows. The audio stream just disappears when I press the record button for some reason. Tried using virtual dub to capture also...same thing.
