Odd home internet issue

I'm running on Comcast with a Motorola SB6121 connected to a Netgear WNDR4500 n900. From there, I have various wired and wireless devices connected. Starting around 6pm last night I was getting intermittent connectivity which resided long enough to play SWTOR for an hour. Then the connection dropped and I was not able to get online the rest of the evening. I called Comcast and have them scheduled to come out tomorrow. Anyways, the odd issue is that I'm still able to RDP into my home network from outside the network. However I still can not get to any site or ping the dns. I was able to get a single ping to return from the gateway address, but the next two tries failed. Any suggestions for trouble shooting on my end before Comcast comes out? I was going to try connecting my laptop directly to the modem to see I have better results.

A good idea. Could also be some kind of malfunctioning Internet security software.

I did try directly connecting to sites using an ip address without luck. Also switched the router to use Googles public DNS. Not sure what else to try with DNS besides setting it directly on my network adapter.

If you had any failed pings to the router's gateway address, it's not an ISP problem, so of course incoming connections to the router over the Internet were fine.

Not sure what was doing it, but a device on my network sent about 52 GB worth of data over the last day 1/2. I suspect it's the router itself as I took everything else off the network.

Is your wireless secured? Someone could've got on it and been P2P'ing.

Nothing else need afaik for home use. Have you handed out the key to anyone close by? neighbors, friends, etc?

Just my fiancee and I know the password. We live in a sub division so there are homes close, but the range should not be more than a neighbor away. Anyways, I changed the key to something else and made it 13 characters long.

52GB send is suspicious for sure though. for the change, but shoot for 20+ next time.
