This morning, I ran TMPEngine on a large video file that was messed up. TMP started running and the amount of disk thrashing was incredible. Just tons of disk activity, and it looked like it would take 7 hours to run. Mind you, this was on a 2.8GHz system with HyperThreading and 1GB memory.

On a lark, I copied the file to a computer with a 2.6GHz system, no HT, 1GB. Was done in under 2 hours, nominal disk access. XP Pro on both.

Any ideas?

don't know -- but it can't hurt to rule out anything that's NOT causing the problem. It's a good method for figuring out what's wrong.

Next step (if you've got a lot of time), swap the hd's and see if that does the trick. Also, what other stuff was going on on the offending machine? something taking up ram that might cause a lot of PF usage?
