So I have this really irritating sensation at the base of my nails (more pronounced in my thumbnails) where the lunula is.

It makes me feel "weak." It gets more pronounced through the day as I am typing/coding and if my fingers stay inactive. One form of relief is to make really hard fists with my hands and use those grip exercise things.

The other way I have found to relieve this very irritating sensation is to put a ton of pressure on the base of the nail.
I would apply this pressure by getting any of those metal clips and just clip them onto my finger (http://www.staples.com/sbd/img.../std/s0045642_std.jpg). I'm essentially pressing down hard on the base of the nail where the nail comes out in the nail/skin fold.

I have no history of biting nails, anxiety, or anything.

I live a relatively stress-free life, and pretty much coasting through life right now. I highly doubt I have anxiety issues.

The feeling/sensation is very very real to me. Google yields absolutely nothing, save for behavioral issues due to anxiety (but those involve bad habits like biting nails and maiming the nails due to anxiety).

bah!!

I just need any term so I can research this further before I go to my medical.

Just rip the nail off. Demons are trying to escape through your thumbnail. It's the only way to relieve the sensation.

Hi DanTMWTMP I have the exact same symptoms and have been scouring the net looking for a name to call it, or advice on what causes it, or how to manage it. I know this is an old post but so far it is the only mention of the symptoms that I have. Have you found any solutions? I would appreciate gleaning anything that you have learnt Thanks
