odd craigslist sale...

So I was selling an extra 17 in monitor on craigslist for 30 bucks. Guy agrees to price and comes to pick it up. When he gets there he offers me a 32in LCD tv as a straight up trade. I took the trade and it works great. What's the possible angle the kid had for even offering such a lopsided deal? Kid looked pretty clean cut. Never got the shady feeling I get around scams.

True but why didn't he just flip it on craigslist. I could get 150 within 24 hrs all day long for it

and yeah I considerd it was stolen

I hate people that do that on craigslist. My expectation is you made an offer to pay the asking price or we agreed on a price, so why show up with something else.

Looks like you got beat if the tv breaks on you. You could flip it even though it's not right to screw someone else over.

Stolen or there's some issue with the TV that you'll find out here shortly enough.

True if the tv has an issue I didn't get a great deal. But I found there is a big market for even broken hdtvs on craigslist. Got 40 for a 32in tv that died it a thunderstorm a few months back. Got 100 for a 50in plasma that died it the same storm

Why would someone go through all the risk and hassle to steal a 32" TV to get a 17" monitor out of it? 😵

Exactly. An old vga only one at that....

the kid looked like a 20 year old computer geek virgin though...just didnt seem the type of kid to being the stealing type you never know I guess but...hmmm

a. steal an LCD tv, probably from your aunt's home that your mom has keys to
b. don't list said TV on craigslist because you know your aunt is checking for such a listing
c. don't mention it on the phone to Falloutboy, fearing rejection of trade
d. go home with monitor to use or list on CL (maybe find out too late that the monitor does not get you nearly as much money as you hoped)

<note - the above is not my to-do list...>

And, OP, please don't list the TV back on CL, unless you want to deal with the nosy original owner or the nosier police

I'd be kind of mad if I asked for $30 and some guy showed up with a 32" tv. If I'm going through the trouble of dealing with craiglist lowballers it's because I want some cash.

I was actually selling a few odds and ends to get cash for a tv in the bedroom...it was like ok cool exactly what I wanted

17" LCD or CRT? Because the latter is literally less than worthless. And the former...well, you can hitch an LCD TV up to a computer so I have no idea what the angle is there either.
