The swearing in process at court finishes with "so help you God." If you are atheist and swear to the oath, have you committed perjury?

i thought perjury was lying under oath... this is like lying about the oath in the first place... i don't think it counts if you lie before the oath is over.

As defined it is breaking an oath. However if you are atheist, can you take the oath in the first place?
