Odd C2D E6600 Temps

So I was testing out my PSU (checking the 12V rail fully loaded system... e6600 @ 3.4 and 7900GS @ 700/900) when I noticed my C2D temps were... well, different then expected.

CPU-Z is reporting 1.408V under load, which I don't know if it is that for sure, as I don't fully trust monitoring programs, but I guess the multimeter would measure close enough - if I knew where to measure this.

Anyway, I'm using a Scythe Mine, with a 120mm 1800RPM fan. The idle temps... 52-53C. Ambient is around 80F... ok, so I think "maybe the new Zalman VF900 I installed is dumping a lot of heat into the case..."

I load up the entire system, including the GPU (which also to test the 12V rail on the PSU), and my load temps, 55-58C, which is actually pretty good.

So I'm not understanding... if my idle temperatures are so high, I was at least expecting something like 65-70C under load.

How is it possible that my idle/load temperatures are practically identical? Especially when running around 1.4V through the processor?

I mean I would love to run 3.4GHz as my summer overclock if my processor doesn't actually pass 60C under load during Orthos stress testing. But I am not at all liking 50C+ idle.

That is odd, I'm idling around 45-50 C at times, but I load around 70-80 C on Intel TAT, and around 70 C on Orthos, 1.47 vdrop (1.525 set in the BIOS).

If i'm idling at 55 C (when my room is around 90 F), i'm too afraid to run it at such a high voltage, (65-70 just gaming).

Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme with a 120 mm 2000 RPM fan.

Either you have a extremely good ventilation (I have 3x120's, 1x80 in my Lian Li PC-7B Plus II case, so I think that is fairly good ventilation), or possibly some thermal protection kicking in?

Jedi2155, how are you able the change the multiplier on your E6600? Do you have an ES or something?
