I upgraded from my old K8T800 ASUS 754 set up to a newer 939 ASUS A8V Rev 2 set up.

I have two hard drives - One old 40 GIG HDD and one new 80 GIG WD.

When I was on my 754 set up I had to reformat, and I installed the OS on the newer 80 GIG HDD. However, I forgot to wipe the 40 GIG clean so it still had OS files on it. But from there on out I booted from the 80 GIG anyway.

The problem is when I switched to the 939 set up with the A8V Rev 2. No matter what settings I placed in the BIOS or how I fixed the HDD jumper settings, I could not for the life of me get it to boot with the 80 GIG HDD selected in the bios as main boot device. It just kept giving me "Insert Boot Media or reset and select the proper boot device". What was strange is upon booting up with the 40 GIG slave, it boots up with my newer install of the OS on the 80 GIG and not the older one on the 40 GIG.

So for now I've been booting the 40 GIG slave selected, even though the OS Im running on is the one from the 80 GIG. But now I notice my older 40 GIG HDD making funny sounds. Sounds like its dieing. So I ordered a new 160 GIG segate, but without the 40 GIG HDD it gives me the same problems.

Did some how and in some way the boot sectors on the 80 GIG got deleted or messed up? This really is a strange problem. I don't understand why it worked with my 754 ASUS K8T800, but it doesn't work with my A8V Rev 2 939 board.

I just borrowed a copy of XP and will try repair install on the 80 GIG or repair the boot config files.
