Odd black tiger stripes on my Dell LCD

A week ago I started seeing 3 black verticle smudges/stripes about a cm. wide and 4" long on my display, about 3" apart. At first I thought it was fingerprint smudges, but after a good cleaning they were still there.

It's most noticeable when I'm in some sort of game but not so much when I have white text documents open. I've had the LCD since fall 05

I wonder if the backlights were mounted there or if some of them are failing.

It could also be humidity, hard to tell really without a picture.
