odd Aironet speeds...

a client has an Aironet 342 setup...

the AP is like 30-40 feet from the workstaions that have the wireless nics... yet I can't manage to get over 1mb/sec. the walls are thin and there is hardly any interference... the signal strength and quality are poor.

any idea what can be done here?
 
Any microwave ovens or cordless phone base stations anywhere close by?
Both of these can be significant sources of interference.
