thx..u know what the resolution is on these? i had a cheap digital camera that had 160k pixels. you couldn't read the words off a white board 🙁

i have the m100 version of this - its ok - good for the price at least. I THINK the resolution is 800X600 - good enough for simple sutff.

Its 24bit Color at 640x480.

But how much do you really expect for $19.99 😛

Im sure it takes good pics, but your not going to replace a $200 plus digital mega-pixel camera with this. Its more a novelty, or emergency camera. Probably good enough for most people.

CyberZenn, can u read the words off a whiteboard from the pic? or the print from a newspaper?

Thanks for the tip Sept1967.

In case anyone in NYC is interested, I just purchased a Palm III series PalmPix from the Office Depot in lower Manhattan on Broadway between 3rd and 4th Streets, across from NYU.

When I was there (about 9:30 AM) they still had one more Palm III series PalmPix and two M1XX series PalmPix.

On an unrelated note, they had that new Sharp Zaurus Linux PDA. Damn that thing is sweet. Longer than a Palm Device, but NICE! Cool integrated hidden keyboard. Wish I had the $500 necessary to play with it some more. 😎

One other thing. The image viewer is obviously not the best in the world. Taking a 640 X 480 digital picture on a 160 @ 160 screen (and not even all of the screen at that) is not going to result in a clear preview or anything close to it.

However, I did find one small tool that helps a bit. It's called "Screen Prefs" by Mike McCollister. The default for most screens on a Palm Device is 1 bit (black and white). However, you can scale it up to 4 bit (16 grays) with this program (it also works for color screens). There is a small performance hit on the Palm Pilot, but not noticable in my opinion. Anyway, I found that setting the default to 16 grays makes the images slightly better in the picture preview window. It's a shareware software package that you can use without purchasing. However, if you register for $5 you get a code that will enable Screen Prefs to keep you setting in the event of a soft reset.

Anyway, just thought I'd mention it. You can find this program at:

Enjoy.

I don't have any firsthand knowledge, but the PalmPix should work on all M1XX series devices because they all have the universal connector.

The only question may be whether or not their are "slight" differences in size for the form factor. I'm just not sure that they are exactly the same as far as the body of the device.

But the connectors are definitely the same.

Compatibility:

The M100 version works ONLY with m100 and m105. Thes two PDA's DO NOT have the Palm Universal connector. So NO...it will NOT work with an m125 or m130.

There is a different model PalmPix that will work, not this one.

ehhh..... MAYBE - if the lighting was right and the text was of decent size and/or you were relatively close
