It's a conspiracy!

More like another buzzword bandwagon memory manufacturers jump on to make it sound like their memory is more important.

I would refrain from posting and keep my mouth shut if I had no clue on the question asked.
No offense, might sound offending, but trust me I didn't mean it as an insult towards you.

For your information now, SLI memory isn't the accurate term ( just exchanged the original term with SLI for marketing purposes as SLI is a "key word" for every pc user [ from absolute beginners to top clockers ] compared to...EPP.
And it's nVIDIA's idea/campain [ helps a little bit on auto RAM settings, nothing better though ]

EPP was introduced by nvidia with the nforce 590 SLI chipset. (Enhanced Performance Profiles)
It's like an extension to the SPD. Supposed to take the guesswork out of overclocking for beginners as long as they have the compatible chipset motherboard and RAM.

However, IMHO, if overclocking has to be dumbed-down for you, you probably shouldn't be doing it.

Of course, maybe nvidia worked with memory makers (their name gets more publicity, memory guys get to do something other than LEDs to market higher-than-high-end modules) - but you can't single out OCZ for this.

Edit: SLI might just evolve from being an abbreviation for Scalable Link Interface to just a tag that symbolizes ultra-high-end. The Cooler Master Stacker 830 is already an SLI-Certified (or SLI-Ready?) case. And of course, you have your SLI-Certified RAM and PSUs. The PSUs make sense. The Cases don't make any.

It's marketing, but it's marketing with a purpose.

A lot of SLI certified components (cases, memory, etc.) are paid for to be "certified" but this certification also adds them to the SLI Marketplace. So if you're in the SLI Marketplace and need RAM, guess what pops up? SLI Certified RAM, of course! :D

Coming from a company that names their PSU "GameXStream" I'm not the least bit surprised.

Still not as bad as the "xtreme gaming surface"; a glorfied mousemat marketed to gullible "extreme gamers". Sigh.

I still don't understand why people honestly care about this? Do you sleep less at night worrying about someone possibly deceiving John Q. Public, and get on the phone with Mr. Fox when you possibly see something that may miscontrue someone into a false sense of faster performance? Let the people who don't know the difference get conned into paying a high premium for junky bargain bin RAM marked up at Circuit City; you know that the certification doesn't mean anything... I know it doesn't, so where's the problem?

Oh and the GameXStream name was based on all of their other power supply names featuring some word signifying the overal purpose + "Stream". Such as my 520W PowerStream PSU in my MM/F Server. Sure, they threw in a little play on words with the XStream, but I don't see why you're even attempting to use this as a bash against a company that makes good products overall.

This is a thread about OCZ's marketing.

GameXStream is a horrible name, their marking sucks.

No, to be more specific, it's a thread on OCZ's use of nVidia's marketing term "SLi-Ready" for memory.

That's your opinion... need I stress the "your" more?

Read the title of the thread "OCZ - what is with your marketing".

Of course it's my opinion, marking is inherently subjective anyway.
