thanks for another good find amber! still waiting for better timings on these guys. But price is unbeatable. from newegg, says voltage from 1.8 to 2.0. maybe with more juice this timing can be tightened a bit.

Yes. The Platinum Rev.2 are very good.

I believe these modules use Elpidia chips, AMD chipsets may issues with them.

All my Intels like them, and do run 4,4,4,12 timings at 400MHz and below. YMMV...

I wasn't a big fan of mine. OCZ walked me through a BUNCH of settings and I finally got mine running well but out of the box they were a headache.

My OCZ failed memtest on the first test only one stick.
The other stick passed.
Windows booted fine with both sticks!

Contacted OCZ. Did not like their attitude. They said they were not responsible for what happened to the memory after it left their warehouse.

I said how could something happen in shipping that only affect the performance such that memtest fails but Windows still boots.
Only heard back excuses.

Returned them to newegg.
My review is under Navid here.

Are these sticks better than the patriots? They are the same price with no rebate. Rebates are a pain to me, I get gyped half the time, and it's just a pain to keep all those copies around all the time. What do you guys think? Which should I go for (consider I'm hearing mixed reviews about the OCZs)

'Nother price drop. Someone's trying really hard to get rid of these...

I don't own these myself and I don't have any plans to buy any more RAM until Nehalem/DDR3, so it'd be interesting to hear from someone else if they have tried these and can offer some input.

I have a set in my computer right now. Works for me. Interesting thought that CPU-Z says the part number is OCZ2VU8002G (the kit ends in 4K but each stick is 2G) indicating it is DDR2-800, but "Max Bandwidth PC2-5300 (333 MHz)" and the timings list only 200/266/333MHz. I'm actually running it at 400MHz right now, but don't remember if I had to boost voltage. Basically these are yet another "factory overclocked" RAM like a lot of "enthusiast" memory on the market. I say screw this and just buy standard non-pre-overclocked JEDEC stuff, like DDR2-667 or 800 rated for standard latencies at 1.8v only.

That pretty much confirms my original suspicions (that this kit is really just overclocked lower speed RAM). I'm glad I decided to pass on these when this deal first came out, and to wait for something a bit better/more standard.

Imho, they should have just sold these at their true speed and without the gratuitous heatspreaders. And marketed them as value/select grade RAM. 4GB for $54.99, even for DDR2-667, is still a fairly reasonable price.

Anyways, appreciate the info .

Just a little PSA - Unless you are running Vista 64bit you are still not going to be able to use all 4 GB's of memory. Vista 32bit uses the same 32bit registry so it is impossible to address all 4 GB's due to addresses assigned to hardware and similar resources. I found this out the hard way so please be aware. Here is a Link to a good article. 4GB is still better then 2 GB but just don't ask why you do not see 4GB.
