Ok guys thanks! one more thing. Does firmware updates improve performance noticeable or they mostly release them for bug fixes etc?
Does it worth to risk and update firmware?
Just updated firmware on my OCZ Agility 2. It actually led to some problems that required a call to tech support and some readjusting settings in the Bios. During the process, OCZ told me that firmware updates are almost always just bug fixes, and that they don't really recommend them unless you're having problems. I haven't noticed any difference. The drive was blazing fast before and it still is.
i never update firmware versions - seems unnecessary. i'd rather just rma the unit if the firmware is defective honestly
The Vertex 2 has exceeded all my expectations. I would wait for the new Sandforce controller though. It should be out early next year. I'll be replacing my laptop drive with one.
you can use compact command to compress any file on ntfs (by file) this renders the compression mostly useless dude.
Remember the old drivespace/doublespace utility for DOS? it's like that.

haha wow I must be getting old, I remember that!
Exactly! I don't know what the obsession is with flashing to newer firmware/BIOS just because it is available. You should flash if there is a need, not just because it is on the web site for download. For instance flash a motherboard if the current BIOS doesn't support the new CPU that you are holding in your hand ready to install. Flash that Seagate 7200.11 HDD which is on the old self-bricking firmware ASAP.
Something that is working fine? Why not leave the unbroken alone?

I used that stuff, which came with the DRDOS 7.0 that I bought.
