Is OCZ Ultra 5+ Silver Thermal Compound exactly the same as Arctic silver 5? I rememebr the whole shnanigans when their Ultra II was found to have zero silver in it, then OCZ announced a recall and that arctic silver would be making their stuff from then on.

A place i want to buy other stuff from only has the OCZ stuff, it's not worth paying the extra shipping for AS5 from another place (not to mention AS5 is more expensive there anyway). In UK btw, so listing north american places with free shipping wont help :(

how much is the actual difference between AS2 and AS5 anyways? Anything really noticeable, or just like 1F?

Techlab measured the difference between the AS3 and AS5 at 2C @ Idle and 3C @ load. While Mikhailtech measured the difference between the AS3 and AS2 at 3C @ Idle and 5C @ load. So more or less its 7C @ idle and 8C @ load. Even if the difference is only half that, 4C is huge.

I guess you get what you pay for, again sorry about the wrong info i posted about the AS2 vs AS5. But 1coolpc.com does ship internationaly at a good price.

someone skipped their morning coffee ;)

the site [my e-tailer site i mean] doesnt have arctic alumina either. thats what i'm using now, but its running out. I seriously doubt the difference between any goop is really as much as a couple of C tbh, more concerned about durability. on my previous hsf i noticed only a tiny difference between some freebie white goop, arctic alumina and shin etsu paste - 2 maybe 3c under load at most, and half of that could easily be due to differences in appplication. the best of the bunch, the shin etsu, was even just a few C better than the original thermal pad (though a excellent review of the hsf did say it was an unusually good pad). yes yes i know how to apply goop properly and yes each was on for >1 month. Granted the hsf had a reasonably smooth base so likely the goop's didnt have that much work to do.

it's probably cheaper and a bit quicker to buy from the other uk e-tailer than from 1coolpc.com, paying airfare shipping, customs duty etc etc ;)

ANYWAY... anyone know if OCZ Ultra 5+ is simply rebranded Arctic Silver 5?

the place i'm buying from doesnt have it. the other places that do charge more shipping than the stuff costs (they dont charge by weight). the price of it + shipping is over $20, or was seeing as i've just found somewhere else thats a little less ridiculous with the shipping (~$16 the new total).

seeing as i'm buying it to use on a build i'm doing as a favour for someone, whom i've already donated a motherboard, video card, new fan for the video card, most likely other stuff he's fogotten about like case fans and possibly the processor (if he has been ripped off like i suspect and it isnt just his current mobo reporting it wrong)...
