OCZ SSD RMA issues

I'm trying to RMA my dead OCZ Vertex 2 drive. My issue is that my drive is a 34nm version and they're telling me that they are replacing it with a 25nm one. There is a *huge * performance difference between the two drives:

http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/storage/43097-vertex-2-34nm-vs-25nm.html

I'm wondering if I should complain and try to get them to give me something faster. It doesn't seem like I'm going to get anywhere, though. :(

OCZ fucked me last week on a Vertex RMA. I had 3 in a RAID0 setup and all of them had 150/230 read/writes. I had to RMA one and they sent me back the current Vertex that has 75/210 read/writes. Now my RAID0 write performance has gone to shit because the older, faster drives have to throttle to the newer, slower drives speeds. I have defended them here at Anandtech's forums before but finally have to say "FUCK OCZ". The response from their forum support staff is basically thats life.
I won't be buying anymore OCZ ssd's or power supplies from here on out as they will screw you in the end.

This guy got an Agility 3 as replacement for his Vertex 2:

Perhaps you should puruse that?
I tried that and they wouldn't do it. They kept saying that the drive had the exact same model number as the replacment and therefore would perform the same (which is not true).

Anyhow, I got my new Vertex 2 today. At least they honored the warranty. Even being the slower version it still is faster than the OCZ Octane S2 that I bought and then returned.

I will not be buying any more OCZ SSDs after this experience. They need to label their products honestly. They way they do things is too dishonest IMO.

I stopped buying OCZ when i realized their desktop memory was garbage. I understand completely why they got out of the business... it was garbage.

but i still can't fathom why i still buy their high end OCZ psu line... D:

same reason many others buy their hardware... price.

I happen to have had good success with their products and even I can't say that I bought most of it based on reviews. lol

and Godmode hit that nail squarely.

as to the OP's issue here?.. I can only tell you that "the squeeky wheel gets the grease" rule applies big-time over on the forums. So.. squeek harder.

For how severely boochi's raid configuration was affected I would never back down until I got personal one-on-one handholding/forum support to get a similar unit to replace it with. Good luck with that though(finding a known similar Vertex). But at the very least, you could get an upgraded model to run as single disk volume. Just 1 Sandforce drive will be faster for an OS volume than any Indilinx array. And the Octane S2 wouldn't be painfully slow compared to the fist gen Indy either.

Just sayin'.. don't stomp away mad about getting the door slammed in your face. Pound on the door until they answer and throw you another drive just to shut you up and help keep you from waking up the neighbors.

It is not worth the effort. Eric Ryder blew me off when I posted over there knowing that I had multiple drives and the performance hit I was taking. If they really gave a shit he would have maybe said, "let me look in to it for you". OCZ does not value loyal customers, thus I will no longer remain loyal to them. I'm sure I can cost them a few sales preaching the truth about their cavalier attitude toward their customers.

I would however like to say thank you to Western Digital for doing the exact opposite of OCZ. I had to RMA a drive 4 years old and what did they do? They sent me a brand new drive that outperformed the old one, not one that performs half as well.

So as it turns out I somehow miraculously got a 34nm drive. I realized it when I benchmarked my new drive and it was the same as my old one. Perhaps all my complaining got me somewhere after all. :)

I wonder what killed my old one. It makes me nervous if these drives konk out after only 1 year.
