OCZ Solid 2 is on newegg

OCZ Solid 2 drives are for sale on newegg now, and for only $299 for a 128gb drive ($50 cheaper than the agility). the question though is how do they perform? they were announced back in august and i was beginning to think they were vaporware, but $299 is a really good price. can anyone find a good benchmark of these drives? i JUST bought a 128gb TORQX yesterday at work cause they're on sale for $350, but if the solid 2 is as good or better in performance then i wanna know so i can return it and save myself $50 lol

Who makes the controller on the Solid 2? Weren't the first OCZ Solid drives Jmicron? Or am I thinking of something else?

it is an indilinx drive that uses intel 34nm flash. read the AT article back in august, there's a page detailing this drive

Agreed, I was thinking this was vaporware for a while too. If you look at Anand's benches, all indilinx drives perform very close to each other, particularly the random read/write benches. If there is a big difference, it seems to come from the sequential read/write speeds. If you take the Agility as the lowest Indilinx drive (not counting the Solid 2), that seems to be where the difference is. The Solid line is being marketed by OCZ as a value drive, below the Agility "mainstream" drive. My guess is that you will get lower sequential speeds and about the same random read/write speeds. We'll see when the reviews come out.

I was hoping 4k writes where going to be faster... but its definitely not slow.
Oh and OCZ warranty info on the site says 3 years. But in my box install and warranty info says 2 years.

Those aren't horrible numbers, I'd say it's a pretty good value for a 120GB Indilinx SSD. Seems to be identical to the SuperTalent GX2.

Are you saying that this 120gb SSD has better numbers than your Vertex 120gb?

If that's the case, I'm glad I didn't buy the Vertex yet, as that's the way I was leaning, but going with the Solid 2, I can save some money and have speeds as good or better than a Vertex!

I see Newegg has the Solid 2 as 220 read/130 write, with the Vertex as 250 read/180 write, and the Agility falls in the middle with 230 read/135 write.

The link you posted shows gdootson getting 250 read/172 write and 245 read/184 write. Average them out and we're looking at 247.5 read/178 write, the speed of the Vertex, for $90 less, granted the Vertex was 339 after rebate yesterday, and now it's 359 AR, but still, the Solid 2 seems to perform just as well.

The scores at OCZ on AAS are a full 20 points higher than my system (my system is a Core I5-750 with 8GB of PC1600 DDR3 ram) vs the AMD system of the tester at OCZ. I think that tells it all.

My 4k's are better but his sequential is better. I might run another test since it's been over a week, lol! :p

I don't know if the 2.82 MB/s difference on write speed would amount to all that much in real world computing.

I think I found a cheaper alternative to the Vertex. :)

Now, time to debate on i5 or i7. The money I can save on this SSD(compared to the Vertex), I could use towards the i7.
