I tried a few USB thumb drives, but they wouldn't work with Readyboost. Came across this speed demon with excellent ratings from every tech reviewer that touched it.

2GB Drive At the Egg$18.99 AR

Looks to be the fastest flash drive made, and with rebate makes it the least expensive 2GB I've seen. All the other OCZ drives have rebates on them, too.

1GB Drive $11.99 AR
4GB Drive $35.99 AR

All have $4.99 3-day shipping.

This is a damn good deal. I already have one, but I bought it before they had the MIR. All of their flash drives have a lifetime warranty.

yeah i have the 4gb one.. speed demon, does 28MB/s read. A friend of mine cracked open one.. it is dual channel design with two SLC chips on both sides of the controller. Good stuff....

SLC = faster/ expensive, MLC = cheap stuff :).

I have this one, got it from newegg for 34-14MIR and it works fine for ReadyBoost. Was getting 26MB/s read and 15MB/s write. Really an amazing flash drive.

Some more info on Readyboost click me - also contains a small round up of sticks and reports on whether or not they work - although it isn't exactly a new article...

I bought one of these last week for a on the job portable data storage, and for use with ready boost.

I have heard varying reports that this will and or wont work with ready boost. Many people say the random access time isnt high enough and have had it fail.

Ive also heard to make sure you format it as NTFS.

It seems to work just fine on my vista install.

In Win XP, couldnt you put the pagefile on the flash drive? I've been meaning to try that for a while now.

The 1gb is up to $17.99 ($22.99-$5) which now makes the 2gb at $19.99 ($33.99-$14) a hotter deal imo. The 4gb is still $41.99 ($59.99-$18) and that's the one I went for. Thanks OP for the heads up.

The 2 Gig drive is down to $15.99 AR ($14 rebate) tonight if anyone is still thinking about it. Glad I waited until after work to order it.

Thought I would quote this from the newegg user reviews since people seem interested in getting it for readyboost
"Not suitable for Vista Readyboost

Pros: Like all OCZ jumpdrives this one works fine and is faster then most.

Cons: I bought it to use with the Vista Beta 2 for the Readyboost technology but it's not suitable despite the speed. Don't purchase if you have this use in mind. Very few of these drives are suitable so check the Internet for a list of compatable drives.

Other Thoughts: Despite the fact it doesn't work for what I bought it for I'll still keep it for storage. Next time I'll do my homework before I buy something."

I dont know how reliable this review is, but all the lists I have seen, seem to be simple user input, and this falls under that category.

had free shipping but then they decreased the price $1 but added in $4.99 shipping. Now they've decreased it even more but there's still the shipping so the deal actually isn't as hot as it was but only by a few bucks.

No, Newegg constantly changes their prices.

Many other posts that mention Vista ReadyBoost says it IS compatible with it and is working with it. So, I don't get it.

You wouldn't want to do that because a USB flash drive is MUCH slower than a HD.

Where did you see that Steve?

From what I understand after a reading a bit about this, apparently a drive has to be pretty fast to support RB. But if that's the case, then why is it so many low rated speed-wise drives (only 6-9MB/sec) say they ARE RB compatible, and some 25MB/sec+ drives are NOT?

Ah, never mind. I now see you're with OCZ. So let me ask you this please; what is the read/write speeds for this 1gb model? The OCZ site says Up to 28MB/s (read), 15MB/s (write) but only that's for the 512mb unit, but in the PDF on the product page http://www.ocztechnology.com/drivers/UserGuide_for3_En.pdf , it states "Date transfer rate up to 33MB/s for Read, 22MB/s for Write in Dual-channel mode". (They may want to change that to "DATA" instead of "Date"). LOL. Also, how can one choose to run in dual channel mode? I ask that because it also lists SINGLE channel speeds.
Thanks.

Wow, the price of this thing is changing by the second! I've seen it change price 3 times in the past few minutes!!
