OCZ Pulling Negative Reviews on Newegg

Seriously?

I left a negative review on Newegg yesterday regarding the OCZ Vertex 3 120GB, stated its pros & cons, and was for the most part dissatisfied in the random performance. It was approved by Newegg in the morning, and I saw my review posted. Though a couple hours later when I checked again, it was gone.

Is this really how OCZ practices business? Pressure Newegg to remove the negative reviews so it won't hurt sales? What kind of setup are they running?

In effort to repay the favor, I will post this on as many forums as I am aware of, and make others aware of how shady an operation OCZ is running.

I will never buy from that company again. Ever.

EDIT: Further proof it was removed

It states there are two "1 egg" reviews, yet it only displays one. I assume Newegg's system haven't had yet a chance to refresh the review numbers. The traces of my review is still there.

EDIT 2: Added a picture of my dashboard, displaying the review that I submitted and was approved, that is no longer visible on the Vertex 3 120GB product page:

I can see Newegg doing this but not OCZ. Newegg could be protecting their sales objectives. It is somewhat puzzling and sad to say the least.

Why would Newegg first approve my review? then mysteriously pull it later in the day?

I would not pay a premium for OCZ products. When the price is right, you can get great deals through them.

I'm very happy with my Vertex 2 60gb that I got for $85, plus I got a 16gb Diesel USB drive thrown in for $5 more.

I also have a 600w OCZ Modxtreme PSU that I paid around $30 for and I'm quite happy with it.

Their stuff is better than the really cheap stuff, but not in the same league as Intel and such.

So fail if Newegg would remove negative reviews to meet sales objectives. Even Amazon doesn't stoop to that level, even when some morons give negative reviews to Amazon's third-party vendors and don't review the product at all.

As of 30 seconds ago, Newegg shows 2 one-egg reviews for the 120gb Vertex 3, but if you filter by one-egg reviews, you get nothing. And scrolling manually through all reviews doesn't show either.

I'm doubting my loyalty to Newegg right about now...

AFAIK Newegg will not pull negative reviews at the request of a manufacturer. When I worked at BFG, we tried getting some bogus negative reviews removed on a PSU and they refused. Note that these were not legit reviews for whatever reason because the PSU was just released and a couple reviews were immediately posted - there wasn't even time for people to receive the unit yet and there were reviews saying stuff like "it blew up after a month."

I've also personally posted a review that never showed up, and it wasn't really a negative one either, something like 3/5 or 4/5 eggs. I don't know why.

It's not just the 1-egg reviews. If you click on the 4-egg review, it only shows 1 review, even though the filter says there should be 2.

If you click on the 5-egg review, the filter says there should be 18, but only 16 reviews are displayed.

I write my 3 stars review about mce remote 3 weeks ago and I don't see it in feedback, but it's in my account and was approved

so, I'm not sure that's about you or OCZ, but something in general
all my reviews - even not good show up at Amazon - go figure

That's why I ask at forum like this at 1st before I trust any reviews

I seriously doubt NewEgg is pulling reviews and that OCZ has any say in the matter.

Give it at least a couple days to show up, the egg rating will often appear on the product page before the actual review does. This is normal, the actual written reviews can take a few days to be checked by staff and posted.

edit: If people have posted reviews that haven't showed up, make sure it didn't violate any of NewEgg's review guidelines. Although in practice I don't know how strictly they enforce a lot of these, for example I've noticed that with reviews that have prices, the price will often be XXed out by staff instead of the whole review being rejected. Also I see reviews all the time that refer to overclocking and stuff like that, which would appear to be against their review guidelines but I guess not.

Product Review Guidelines
Newegg.com reads all reviews before posting them and reserves the right to deny any review. Here are some of the things that can cause a review to be denied:

Offensive or abusive language.
Prices and availability can change very quickly on the Newegg.com website, so please leave such information out of your review.
Hyperlinks / URLs.
References to other stores / resellers.
Comments on products that were either physically damaged or misused.
Replies to existing customer reviews; please do not attempt to initiate discussions here.
Comparisons to competing brands / products of competing brands.
Criticism of Newegg.com's service or the service of our operations partners. (FedEx, UPS, Paypal, etc.)
References to aftermarket procedures or installation techniques not mentioned specifically in the original product documentation (overclocking, hacked drivers, tweaking/modding, etc.)
Illegal content
Invasions of personal privacy
Pornography or obscenity
Hate or incitement of violence, threats of harm or safety of a person
Graphic violence or other acts resulting in serious injury or death
Any violations of copyright. Please see our DMCA policy for more information.
Any violation of laws and/or copyrighted musical works.
edit 2: Didn't read your first post close enough I guess, you're positive the written review was posted on the product page, then later removed? Looking at it now there are two one-egg ratings but not a single written review for either (your post makes it sound like there used to be at least one there, has it been removed as well?). Does seem pretty fishy, but I wouldn't be so quick to blame OCZ, could be NewEgg removing the reviews for their own interests or could just be a technical issue or other honest mistake.

If they are removing reviews, really lame how they'd leave the worthless 5-egg reviews like "Out of stock again" and "Auto notify" but pull low egg reviews that probably had some perfectly valid criticisms of the product. Makes it pretty clear that it's all about making the egg rating look better as opposed to weeding out poor reviews or something like that.

you have to understand OCZ sets rules that which the reseller must comply with and it could be that alot of negative noise right now is something they do not wish. this is not a democracy and there is no free speech.

Yep it's TOTALLY plausible that OCZ can pressure newegg into this, because really what would newegg do if they couldn't sell OCZ SSDs? What's next, people claiming that walmart can bargain with manufacterers? 😉

As Eeqmcsq shows either newegg and OCZ also try to suppress 4/5star reviews or there's a more logical explanation..

walmart is a pita to sell to. their logistics is a nightmare.

i guess people buy ocz elsewhere its not like newegg's pricing is all that great except on the scrap-buys (large volume or weirdo units). you can get the same prices elsewhere and better if you know the know.

This is not news. Newegg pulls reviews that are not worth posting. For instance you did NOT get support for the drive before posting a "review" of the drive.

They do that frequently with products, with good reason. No one wants to know you are waiting for a replacement. They want to know how it performs.

You might as well put THIS DRIVE SUCKS in all caps. Because thats how useless it is to everyone.

I see reviews like that all the time that NewEgg has OK'd and hasn't removed. And if they were removing bad reviews, they should also remove the equally worthless 5-egg reviews.

But anyway, just checked the product page and looks like OP's 1-egg review and the other one are now showing up. Was just a technical glitch I guess.

I was particular in following their review terms, I did not violate any of them. And yes when I took that screenshot there was another 1-egg review which is now missing as well.

I don't see it? I actually resubmitted the review yesterday and that has yet to show up as well.

Maybe clear browser cache? Here's a screenshot, is this the review you submitted? The other 1-egg review (VERTEX 3 DOA) is showing up for me now as well.

That is indeed it, but I do not see what you do. I've tried several browsers and even my phone's newegg app, those reviews don't come up

Is anyone else able to see them?

I also do not see the top 2 reviews in your attachment when I go to the feedback. The first review I see is from willmoser.
