Im in the market for 2x1gb of ram and am wondering if the OCZ Platinum High Performance ddr2 pc2-6400 ram at 4-4-4-15 timings or their pc2-8000 1000mhz at 5-5-5-15 timings would be a better buy. The pc2-8000 is $30 more.

Is the faster ram with lower timings overall faster than slower ram with better timings?

Everything depends on how you plan to use it. List your system specs, tell us whether you plan to overclock, etc.

In my case, low latency DDR 800 was the ticket. I'm running a QC660 at 9x400=3.6ghz. My Patriot Extreme LLK is at it's default 400 fsb 4,4,4,12.

Unless you have a low multiplier chip and need to run 500 fb or above, it doesn't make sense to pay more.

I have purchased a...

Asus P5k-c motherboard
Intel q6600
Nvidia 8600 GT Silent
Scythe Infinity
Antec Solo + Seasonic 600W PSU

Yes I would like to overclock my setup if I can. Would like to hit 400mhz fsb at x8 for 3.2ghz or x9 if Im really lucky.

Im not into gaming that much and I like the HD and Silent features of the Asus EN8600 GT Silent. My system is going to be used mostly as a Digital Audio Workstation.

I would not recommend OCZ ram with that mobo...to many compatibility problems.
