In the latest AnandTech memory reviews OCZ 4200EL is roughly 8% faster than OCZ 3700EB on the Intel platform.

At 1GB they are nearly identical in price.

Which should be faster on an MSI K8N (nForce3-250GB)?

OCZ PC4200 EL does NOT work well at all with the Athlon64. I tried some, and it would only run at 200 HTT at 2.5-8-8-16 (yuck) timings ! Go with Mushkin PC3500 level1. I got mine up to 218 2-3-3-6. I use Kingstong Hyperx now though. Also good, but now they only have CAS 2.5 Hyperx, so stick with Mushkin level 1.

If you are buying a newer CG revision A64 the EL should work great because of the improvements made to the memory controller. I'd go that route if you intend to overclock because with the AGP/pci lock on the 250GB and the good overclocking results the CG A64's are showing you'll want ram that can run 1:1 as far as possible, and since the 4200 is guarateed to run a higher frequency it's the safer bet. If you aren't overclocking I wouldn't waste my money on either of those HTH and welcome to the forums :)

Markfw900: In the review OCZ3700EB worked up to 275MHz (DDR550-PC4400) with a new A64. They did have to slow timing down to 3-2-3-10. I was hoping the 4200EL would clock even higher.

DAPUNISHER: How can you identify the CG revision? I'm planning on a 3200+ but haven't bought yet. I do plan on overclocking...4200EL seems like it could go higher in frequency but has slower timings than the 3700EB. Which do you think would be faster overall when overclocked to their limits?
