OCZ pc2700 rev3 dud??

i just build my uncle a system as follows:

athlonxp 1700+
asus a7v333
radeon8500 128mb
40gb maxtor 7200rpm liquid bearings
256mb OCZ DDR PC-2700 "Ultimate" REV 3

the OCZ mem wouldn't run at cl2 at 166mhz (not even 133)
wouldn't handle the turbo settings for the asus board
ohhh well guess it was cheap for a reason

anyone have any ideas as to why it wouldn't run at those speeds ?? they don't sell this memory expecting you to up the voltage do they ??
it has a lifetime warranty n all but i don't think this warrants taking it back. then my uncle would be outta a comp waiting for it to mail back
plus it isn't much of a difference in speed (overall) and won't make much difference...............

it's just the principle of the matter

Whether he would be out of a computer or not, it seems to me you have adequate reason to return the memory. It clearly states that it will run those increased timings. However, you might want to recheck the BIOS settings on that system first. There may be some other conflict or setting going on. As an experiment you could try setting the BIOS at System Defaults; then ONLY increase the mem timings and see what happens. If it works then you will at least know that the memory isn't at fault. If not, get rid of it. There would be a substantial increase in performance if it did run at the advertised speeds.

yeah i messed around in the bios trying just about everything
no go
ohhh well
no more OCZ too bad the samsung wasn't in stock i got the OCZ cause i heard they were using samsung chips and they did well in some reviews
it would prob hold the higher timing if i increased the voltage but i don't wanna "overclock" my uncle's bran new computer hehe

i tellya

I had a little trouble on a system similar to your uncle's with OCZ 3200 DDR.. On the Abit KX7-333, agressive timings (CAS 2-2-2) caused instabilities at 166MHzx2 (PC2700). I changed the setting to read from SPD ROM, so the ram stick would work fine.

Real pc2700 memory is something like Samsung's M368L3223CTL.

I bought some OCZ 2100 for my work computer before I read about it here :disgust:
I get memory dumps all the time. Even at 1:1 ratio and "safe" settings on my P4S333. Whatever, I will probably end up sending it back and getting some real RAM. Why do they include the heatspreader when the stupid thing hardly runs at spec speeds?

OCZ is Suck!
