Ocz - oczssd2-2sld120g - now with benchmarks

I just got this SSD, works slick as heck, benchmarks amazing, and feels sooooo much quicker then my mechanical drive.

I was wondering though, is there any nifty SSD software, where I can see what type of controller/nand I got? Or what firmware it's on, and anything interesting like that?

BENCHMARKS :

I have windows 7 PRO 64bit installed, about 65GB used up, of the 120GB I have available.

Pretty quick benchmarks too, considering the price it is, for the 120GB arena. It beats out the x25m-g2 80gb in a few areas actually...

If anyone is interested in some comparisons, check out this post :

The controller is the Indilinx Barefoot. The NAND isn't known unless you crack it open.

As for firmware, go to Device Manager in Windows, go to Disk Drives. Right click on the Solid 2 drive and then go to Details tab. From the drop down box, select Hardware ID's and you should see the firmware revision there.

Are there any better drivers I could use? I mean, it's running as fast as the benchmarks say it should. The driver is : OCZ-SOLID2 ATA DEVICE dated 2006.

It shows 1.5 as the firmware

Run the AS SSD benchmark and see what driver is listed. It should be MSAHCI. That is the only TRIM AHCI compatible driver.

Damn, that kicks my Vertex to the curb and cost over $40 less!!! 🙁🙁🙁

I wouldn't have minded to pick up another one....but was waiting for the next generation to arrive. Might see if these fall in price when the new ones arrive...and then jump on one.

Good deal!!!

They seemed to have popped up this drive to 350 or so. Well worth the money though, right now...I am sure in 6 months it'll be a different story, haha.

I liked it better when it was $263.99 after Bing and rebate on Newegg a few days (or week) ago...when I posted it in Hot Deals. IIRC, that's where you bought it from and the price you paid! 😉

Perhaps OCZ will discontinue the Agility and replace it with the Solid 2. Utilizing so many different NAND parts probably drains their resources and complicates support. Whereas I hope the Solid 2 will continue to contain Intel 34ns NAND.

For a tiny little company, Indilinx certainly left their mark with these benches. The Solid 2 maybe even gives some insight into whether artificial write barriers have been imposed by the Intel controller. I also think the Intel and Indilinx controllers are tuned differently, one for server performance and the other for desktop performance. So yeah, the Solid 2 currently looks to be the SSD to beat for desktops in price/performance, IMO.
