I wouldn't take Newegg reviews very seriously. Even with the warning on the P965 boards about 1.8v memory and numerous forums with similiar problems, people still buy 2.1v+ memory and then give bad reviews about how it's incompatible. Same goes with the old Asus/Antec NeoHE incompatibility. I've even seen customer reviews that give a product 1 out of 5 because it was DOA and they are waiting for a replacement and my all time favorite review, 5 out of 5 for a product they dont have but it looks good on the spec sheet/aesthetically.

That being said, it looks like a great price.

many p965 motherboards run the voltage at 1.8V by default, but many of the newer faster ram modules NEED 2.1V in order to run. So many people were buying these ram modules expecting them to work, but since the motherboard only gives 1.8V the computer wouldn't start up, no post, etc. Some people had to buy cheap 256MB ddr2 ram that ran at 1.8V in order to up it's voltage to 2.1 in order to get their more expensive nice ram to run.

what ghcanjam is gettin at is it's not the ram's fault that the motherboard only supports 1.8V ram at startup, but people give incredibly bad reviews on the ram because "they didn't work on my new system".

Moral is you got to know what your hardware supports before you buy ram for it.

Good memory will run JEDEC standards by default so it will boot and just need to be adjusted to reach its stated performance levels.

QFT. I couldn't agree more.

Hrrrm...

Just popped some into my new Asus P5B-E/C2D 6300+ build.

So far, no problems.

I have heard of reports with compatibility issues b/n this board and the memory, but so far DDO and BF2 have played without a hitch (~3 days now).

Will do a memtest run this week...... :)

The reviews are certainly not useless though. Reading the reviews was the first time I got wind of the problem. After further research it was clear how to avoid the problem. But without the newegg reviews bringing focus to the problem I may have never noticed.

Agreed ... the RAM should at least boot with 1.8v ... even if it's at a slower speed.

RAM simply needs to be dual spec'd.

Specs at JEDEC Voltage and Specs at increased voltage. Please correct me if I'm wrong ... but doesn't running the ram at 2.1v also over volt the northbridge? (or maybe it bepends on the board and BIOS) ... Not that the P965 can't handle it.

Vdimm only controls the voltage to the memory....voltage to the northbridge is completely separate if the board even allows control of such voltage, many do not allow northbridge voltage adjustment, but still have Vdimm control.

Thanks for the correction.

I wonder why it is then that the two Gigabyte DS3's I've worked with ... the northbridge got noticibly hotter with the increase in RAM voltage. I really need a laser temp probe so I can test some of these things out instead of making an educated guess.

I have a dumb question. I'm interested in this ram, but I wonder if my current mobo will work with it, and take full advantage of it. I have a Gigabyte K8N-SLI Pro (Nforce 4 chipset). I currently have 2 gb of PC3200. Would this ram work for me, and give me "double" the speed of the ram I currently have?

no, ddr2 is a different technology and interface. Your mobo (since it is not a AM2) will not work with ddr2

Now $201.90 AR at Newegg.

I'm shopping for 2GB DDR2 for a planned C2D system, no MB picket yet, and am unsure what RAM to get, including whether to get 2.1V or not...
