Anyone else looking forward to this drive? If I can get it for around $1100 I am definitely picking one up. It will be a nice VMFS volume :)

A quick look online says this new SSD uses a new Indilinx controller which as OCZ bought Indilinx, it is OCZ's first own controller.

Be interesting to see how it fairs in the compatibility and reliability areas.

How many of OCZ's "problems" (which are not related to customer service) were with SandForce?

I would say the bulk of them as that's what's caused to most issues in the last year and a half.

However, to be fair here(even though many think I'm just an overly biased fanboy, lol).. I would say that the newest Indilinx based drives firmware has not provided a stellar start to their new Indilinx banner.

The newest firmware has certainly helped quite a bit.. but time and firsthand experience will be the best ruler to judge these things rather than the flamers or fanboys opinions.

Personally.. I think they(OCZ) are making a huge mistake by not providing a means of destructive flashing these newest drives should something not agree with them and they decide to panic lock you out. Nothing fuels a fire more than users being forced to spend their hard earned money to RMA a drive that was supposed to be plug and play in the first place.

Had they released that original Indilinx d-flash long ago.. they would have saved quite a bit of money and face in that matter. When a user of your hardware is forced to RMA 2 or 3 times in a row?.. you can often lose them as customers forever and they will slander your name for months or even years from then to further compound the loss of sales and concerns for your products durability.

Seems that the powers that be over there are more concerned about losing new sales because of existing drive owners being able to update their old drives to the Martini firmware, rather than the RMA costs involved with replacing the ones who lock them up. Pretty sad, to say the least.

LOL.. show me one true fanboy around here who will give you an honest opinion as to any negatives for the product they supposedly love too much and can't see straight about.

And why the hell would I point those negatives out all the time when you guys are filling that niche quite nicely? ;)

Many times it's like a bitch-fest-venting-contest around here and I guess I don't like to be a bitch as much as some. Besides, 15 personal drives along with 5 friends and family running OCZ drives just fine tells me that I'm either a potential lottery winner.. or I actually know the limitations and config requirements to make these things live a long happy life.

Seeing as I never win the lottery?.. I'm guessing it's the second one. :)

I have more than a few of the original ocz vertex with indilinx, well over 12TB writes on them, and they have never even hiccuped. I skipped over the sandforce controllers since I never had confidence in them just reading the original press releases. With the return of indilinx, I am definitely looking forward to these octane drives.

none.. because they don't even know its burnt out yet since they're all busy on the forums! :D

or maybe they're all busy trying to fix their crashed OCZ SSD's? :hmm:

I think the above poster and myself must have bought all the "good ones" up. lol

Is there any word as to when these will actually be available at retail? They Said Nov 1st... but I don't even see pre-order ability yet on Amazon. Is this normal?

Just got an email from OCZ and they should be available by next month

I understand. The 1TB version should launch late this month or early next month.

for OCZ.. yes it is. They tend to tease and push the consumer market into either a frenzy to buy the newest "big thing".. or piss everyone off so much that they get sick of waiting and buy something else. lol
