OCZ / Corsair compat issues

I've got a problem trying to run 4GB of RAM on my system. Whenever I pair a set of OCZ and Corsair DDR2 sticks together, the machine freezes randomly and Memtest fails immediately.

I've tested each of the sticks individually and they pass memtest with flying colors. I've made sure that each are in their correct banks, and even tried the reverse to no avail - PC won't boot.

I can't figure out what i'm doing wrong, unless there is a BIOS setting I need to change.

Here are the specs:

  • 2 x 1 GB Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400C4 2GB Kit DDR2-800 timings 4-4-12
  • 2 x 1 GB OCZ CROSSFIRE DDR2 2GB PC6400 DUAL timings 4-4-15
  • Mobo - ASUS NF650I PCIE QUAD-CO P5N-E SLI

Any suggestions are welcome.

They probably don't use the same IC and need different voltages at rated timings. Try setting it to 5-5-5-15 and 2.0v and see what that does.

The mobo is set to AUTO for all the timing settings. Would it make sense that I would need to manually set timings? The other issue is that it will freeze even when I am in the BIOS, so I don't think I'll be able to make the changes.

boot with 1 stick, make changes then shut down and install all sticks

Tried the relaxed timings and it still fails, however, it takes longer now.

Now i'm running with 3 sticks and its working fine. Any other thoughts?

Welcome to the impossible world of P5N-E SLI and 650i chipset!

Running 4 sticks of memory on this MB is an issue of its own, let alone mixed RAM from different manufacturers, and on top of it all - with different basic timings!

I believe that making it work in a stable manner is next to impossible. Like cmdrdredd mentioned, try 5-5-5-15 2T, and read the SPD subtimings - they are important too!

Try to set them as the one showing in the slower RAM - most likely OCZ.

And set the memory voltage to 2.07V, and if this doesn't work, set the NB voltage to 1.56V.

Then you might wanna try 2.17V, but I would not go higher with that Corsair XMS2.

Good luck!

I'm still having issues getting the computer to even boot at all with 4 sticks in the machine. I've tried adjusting the timings and memtest still fails.

Would it be worth it to contact ASUS support?

Also, this might be a stupid question, but are the banks split by color? In the manual, it says that bank 0 is the first 2 DIMM slots - Yellow and Black, and bank 1 is the 2nd set of slots. I would assume that the banks are color coordinated.

I have run 4 x 1gb on this board without issue but, they were all exactly matched DIMMs. I would suggest you first find out what ICs are used on each of the brands of memory to see if you are in fact mixing ICs. As dredd noted above, they may have different ICs which is likely the issue here.

Find your Corsair ICs here: http://www.houseofhelp.com/for...showthread.php?t=57334
