OCZ 700w -or- Seasonic 650w

Seasonic are definitely the higher quality - the OCZ are basically the Fortron Sigma series. But can you rationally justify any of them? I just bought an Antec SU-380 (very similar to their Earthwatts 380) that someone foolishly pulled from a new case. It is adequate for 90% or more of the recently built (those that depend on the +12 rail) systems - yes, even moderate to higher end gaming boxes. One might be able to make a case for the Seasonic 550 (you might be able to get that for less under the Corsair brand or some other) if it's for a dual 8800 system.

$ isn't too big of a concern -> go for seasonic, very quiet !!!!!

I see that the price hasn't changed, I bought my S12-600 2yrs ago for the same price

That means there is a re-badged Seasonic S12 550w unit under the Corsair name?
Is that true? What model is it?

Take the OCZ out of consideration but take a look at the Zalman units. Both are based on Forton designs but the Zalman units have some improvements that bring them nearly on par with Seasonic.

The Antec TP3 550 is also seasonic as is the Neo HE 550. Any of those should work as well while saving some money. They aren't 80 Plus cert, but they still are 80%+ efficient over a significant portion of their output range as is the SU380. Maybe slightly less quiet and not as pretty as the top Seasonic-labeled line or Corsair. But more than good enough for high-end systems.

The Antec units built by Seasonic also lack some of the higher-quality components found in Seasonic's own units as well as units built for Corsair, and PCP&C.

The most significant difference between the two is the use of capacitors; top tier caps (Japanese) are used in the Seasonic and Corsair units while cheaper 2nd tier caps go into the cheaper Antecs.

I also think there are differences in the heatsinks used but beyond that I'm not sure.

They look the same as some of the SuperSilencer series heatsinks and all. SPCR has done pretty glowing reviews of the SU-380 and SS-400HT.

The Corsair HX series are the rebadged Seasonics. Only two models that I know of right now. A 520watt unit and a 620watt unit. The amperage ratings are the same on the 12V rails.

Corsiar HX FTW!

oh but that OCZ isnt a bad PSU either.

OCZ is a brand I trust in any product, however, I'd take the Seasonic because of the effiency...less heat and less energy wasted.

No. The OCZ Power Supply is an excellent piece and better than 95% of the PowerSupplies on the Market. You just happened to ask about one of the 5% that is better.

For the money, the Corsair units are hard to beat.

ROFLROFL... which is like picking between crucial balastix vs ocz dominators.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHH....... choices choices...

Those are both pretty good psu's but if money isn't an issue, I'd go with either Seasonic. High efficiency and low sound is tough to beat.

I have a corsair HX620 psu in my conroe build and have been very pleased with the nice long modular cables (though I needed an extension for the 4-pin so that I can tuck that cable away in a P180) and surprisingly quiet operation.

id say seasonic, i had a s12 500w and it ran great, they are quite nice psu's and keep a relativly stable power on the rails. only reason i went with the one i have now, only reason i went with what i have now, is because i was planning on running dual x1900's.

edit: when you look at the specs, the 12v rails all have the same amps on them, the only difference on the ocz is that it has more on the 3.3, what a joke. go for the seasonic for quality.

Isn't OCZ just a Topower power supply. An average power supply at best.

The GameXStream is based on the Forton-Source Epsilon, a big improvement over the older Topower based units.
