OCZ 600w GameXStream replacement for 470w Powerstream

Long story short, OCZ is sending me a 600w GameXStream to replace my apparently wonky 470w Powerstream. Since they don't make the 470w I'm basically stuck with this one. I haven't found much info on it online aside from the fact that it has FOUR 12v rails! :Q I'd rather have one strong 12v like I had before. I'd also rather have the push-pull cooling fans through the PSU than a single 120mm fan on the bottom, as this doesn't really help in my P180. Is this PSU a step up or at least equal with my 470w? Any advice on its orientation in my P180?

The Fan can face up or down, no matter, as long as there is at least 1 inch of space from the fan to a solid surface.

The PSU is stronger than the 470 you had before, with more available 12V power.

I flipped my PSU, and I found that the fan facing up was less noisy for some reason. There are better and cheaper PSU's to be had though. I'd buy a corsair 520hx, which has one single 12v rail * it's marketed as more then 1 12v rail, but it does in fact only have 1 12v rail * Because the 520hx is modular it'll be nice for the cable management in the p180.

If you want push pull, consider the etasis 750w for 100$ AR. It's overkill, but 100$ is a bargain for that PSU. 80mm fan will be a bit noisier then a 120mm fan, although since it will barely be stressed and since the fan in the bottom area will be supplying it with cool air as well, I doubt the fan will rev up much.

i have the gamexstream 600 in my system now and am very impressed by it. i bought it to replace a 520 powerstream that died on me. here is link to newegg that has lots of reviews listed for it http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16817341001 i would highly recommend you keep the 600, you will be very pleased by it. i hope OCZ sends me a 700 gamexstream to replace my 520 i RMA'ed to them. it was still eligible for their powerswap

i also have a P180 and have no trouble at all with it. i have the fan facing down and noticed no temp increase at all. it runs quieter than my powerstream 520 did too

Well that's good to hear. Is there anything I need to know about certain cables connecting to certain devices due to the different rails? I've been out of the hardware loop for a while. ;)

nope, just connect the 20 pin to your power connector and the 4 pin CPU connector and you are set. you can also do 24 pin if you motherboard has one of those

I put the PSU in last night. It's nice and heavy. Time will tell how stable it is. The mesh sleeving is nice, but the 8-pin cable is too short to reach the top of my case under the motherboard. It barely fits over top of my video/sound cards. There are also a lot of unused cables... begging to be modular.

sorry, i should have mentioned about the 4-8 pin had to go over the video card to reach. i am not one of those that likes all the wires hidden, just so it works for me
